You get the source of knowledge as to what is coming for the library and deal directly with the person who sees to adding to the library. That is why my show speed is close to none for speed, which is why I handle such large crowds so quickly (averaging 4.235 minutes per singer). The host sings only in the top of rotation and will drop out when the wait is over an hour and twenty minutes for singers. STAR KARAOKE is touted by people as one of THE place to sing.

I have been around the Mobile karaoke scene since late 1990 ( involved in karaoke for 17 years) under one of Mobile's 3 karaoke pioneers, KJ host Gary Woodham - THE largest libraried show in Mobile until 1998. (Story published in Karaoke Scene Magazine of Los Angeles several years ago.) Karaoke came to this country in 1988 in 1985 it was first at a club in Los Angeles called DIMPLES on cassette tapes with paper lyrics. It first came to Mobile with the 3 above mentioned pioneers in the local Mobile, AL karaoke industry in 1989/90 Local merchants have said that they discovered it in August 1992!

My format is cdg only so I use a Pioneer PV10G twin tray. I am EXTREMELY portable. I cater to the 29 up group but I do all age parties from Teen Parties ($300 min. 2 hours) on up. I cover all genres of music EXCEPT Heavy Metal or Gangst'a Rap. For parties. I recommend a 2+2 format (2 supplied singers and call up 2 karaoke singers) as this guarantees great music entertainment for nonkaraoke singers and karaoke fun also. My club format is by rotation only. I do NOT DJ except for bridal ceremony

BIOS: I am a full time KJ who's only hat is that of SHOW host. I don't hire my shows out to other KJ's, so you always know who your host is.
I had thirteen years of music background in private school covering a very large and diverse knowledge of music from opera and symphony music to other music genres, styles and eras of popular culture. My instructor was a member
of the Mobile Symphony for many years. I had 3 years at USA in business management with a minor in commercial art. My father is a retired senior member of the ALABAMA bar (50 years).
My husband's family has a background in music and Hollywood. It was his singing that got me into karaoke in 1990 with the top and largest karaoke
operation in Mobile county from 1990 to 1997 Mr. Gary Wooham as written up in Karaoke Scene Magazine several years ago about Mobile Karaoke's history. Those other two pioneer were Linda Cain, and Tom Williams. Many others followed them later.
I started off with around 250 discs, more songs than most karaoke companies and continued to add to this bought at the local Mom & Pop karaoke store, with the bulk of all libraries ordered from online to date. I have a large party unit library of almost equal size to my main club and primary party unit when not in the clubs and a children's library.
I have been in & around karaoke for over a decade and a half now, and made many
wonderful friends as well as a large following from all over the country.
I have been married to Steve for 22 years, we have with two children, both are grown now. Having been on the other side of the karaoke machine I understand what the singer wants and needs from a KJ and show. Our patrons are like family and are treated well. ALL are welcome.

If you want the BEST sound mix with your voice, best music background selected, help, the correct key, that is why so many come for the true feel of the stage experience. For those who wait they KNOW where they wait and those that leave are removed from the lineup and things move up as listed. You see at all times where you sing on dry erase board. New singers are added to the bottom. There is an alpha and an omega. Be sure to get there early to assure you will get your chance to sing!
I buy karaoke discs and equipment from all over the country and locally . I am not going to give you store sales hype, instead offering you my years of knowledge and experience as an end user who can give you straight info. Always happy to point you in the right direction for what you need or the right information for your needs and answers to your questions as I have for the past 10 years online.
I won't tell you I have the songs you asked for then send you a party pack, or someone who doesn't know the library. It only costs a little more to get a quality operation with over 85,000 songs. We book only KARAOKE shows, our
ONLY BUSINESS! You get the owner who's knowledge of the library means a smoothly run event.
Karaoke IS my ONLY business, full time.
Sound equipment is best bought at a reputable music store like Andy's Music (see Michael), MMI Music (see Tommy) here in Mobile, for BRAND NAME PRO components like PEAVEY, YAMAHA, FENDER, etc.
If you prefer a contract I do have sample contracts I have used over the years when the events called for them. My reputation is such that contracts have RARELY been asked for or needed. I can only vouch my own operation and good business reputation.

If you have one of those upper respiratory rhino viruses going around the crud, consider that once you are past being contageous and come out singing your voice may still not be fully recovered from coughing, or inflamed throat tissues may not be fully healed. I suggest that you drop the key of your songs by 1/2 an octave or one knotch on the old karaoke key changer to keep from stressing vocal cords and your throat. You can easily damage the tender tissues or possibly get an incurable case of vocal cord polyps (if you require surgery to remove such polyps on your vocal cords fromsuch abuse, the surgery may render you without a singing quality voice).
They can end a singing forever. Abosolutley avoid POWER SONGS or high keyed songs at this time or if you fatigue your voice singing a lot with a home machine. NEVER SING if you are hoarse or if a song makes you hoarse. (That is a song above your range or too far at the limit of your range to the point of damaging your voice.)
TAKE CARE OF THOSE PIPES! DRINK LOTS OF FLUIDS!

Please remember to be courteous to your KJ no matter who they are. If you are unhappy with a show, vote with your feet and wallet. It is always bad form to go into another show and tell that KJ how to run his/her show. If you are not happy
then just leave and find another show or start your own! Every show and host is different with a different format, library and level of ability. The show may be limited and carry only one disc brand or several industry standards along with
nuggets. If you are being treated unfairly talk to management if you have a legitimate beef. As in every field there are the good, the bad and the ugly, as a patron you don't need to become one of the latter two! (the bad and the ugly) As an ethical KJ I as a rule have NEVER badmouthed area colleagues, even when others may not have done the same. We all share singers! I don't let myself succumb to paranoia.
** Previous Karaoke Hint 27 **
All songs out on record, tape, or cd are not always available on karaoke discs. Music put out on album collections are NOT released/grouped on karaoke discs in the same way. On a karaoke disc music is usually mixed among other hits of
different/various artists. Some karaoke artist discs are out there but they are NOT the same disc collection you buy in the store, although they may have many of the songs on an artist disc that you are looking for. So the next time you ask if other songs from a certain artist or album are one the same disc, understand that those songs in the library will in all likelihood be found on different discs, and some KJ's may not have all the songs you are searching for.
Also it can also take time some time for hot/new songs to make it out on karaoke disc, other times a song may be out before it becomes popular, that is just the nature of karaoke and the manufacturer's decision to put it out in anticipation, of demand for it. Sometimes a disc make will release a version that the artists and their company will later decide to release another version of the recording. One final note, understand that sometimes you can find some unique really cool versions of a song, not the ORIGINAL artists version, but a better one, faster
tempo, good arraignment that lends more to live performances, etc. Versatility is the best for live performing . . . YOU ARE NOT a CLONE, YOU ARE A PERFORMER when you are onstage!!!

Karaoke is very popular, many larger karaoke shows may fill up with singers early in the evening. When the KJ has a full slate of singers or has had a heavy night may tell a latecomer from elsewhere to come back as NO NEW NAMES can be taken for the evening. KJ's are not always paid overtime so it is rude to EXPECT a KJ to stay over on their OWN personal time just for a singer to sing another song. DO YOU STAY AND WORK FOR FREE after a long day. Understand when you are told that the evening is full and NO the KJ can't get in ONE MORE SONG (after the 5 th question like that for the evening - everybody expects the same if one has it they want it - NO). Make your choices as to where you want to spend your evening, come back earlier another night if possible (ask the KJ about it), if you are NOT in time to get in a song on THAT night if you come in late. I know I have big shows and lots of fun, which is why people stay to show off their stuff. People who have come in, waited a long while for their turns to sing in the evening, are going to get the chance for a third round many nights, which means I will not take in stragglers from other places. People who spent their time and money elsewhere made their choice (or if they left and return when the rotation has closed for the night). I personally over estimate so that as people drop out I still have enough people to run me over closing or give those who stayed all night their last round as a reward for waiting. Weeknights My shows are scheduled to end at 12 AM, and Weekend nights at 1AM so I may run 15 to 45 minutes over (normally it averages 30 minutes past show end since I finish a round or draw names from the rotation to finish out the show.) Understand The Word * NO * - Show Your KJ Some Respect !

Understanding the wait for your turn is tough. What I do is take a napkin or piece of paper and write the person down as they sing. If I miss the name then I write a small description down. Some KJ's do NOT follow a regular rotation, but if you follow along and see people getting on deck that sang before/and or after you and you still haven't been called ask the KJ nicely. We are all human and 'might' make a mistake. My rotations are long so I keep a dry erase board I check names as we move down the list. New people sing at the bottom and if lucky enough to make it in before the rotation restarts, they sing then. If not then they wait as those who sang at the top waited. Everyone waits at some point. I post birthdays, special events, drink specials, on the board too. Since not all KJ's make what they do so plain ask, and keep track of when new singers are added if you are unsure when you sing. This is one way to understand rotations (this is not considering the few KJ's who have no set fair running of their operation-the type that fell It's MY karaoke and I run it the way I want, call up who I want and when I want.'
PS: You can count and see how many songs/singers the KJ gets an hour. As a
large show I move it about 14-15 singers/songs and hour (4 minutes per song on average).

Many singers are technically correct when singing a song, but as a singer you MUST think about the feeling and the proper emphasis on the lines of lyrics. Some songs chop the singing some gently melt each new syllable up to the next, this separates the really great singer from the good singer by making the song interesting. Notice the syntax, and the accentuation of the words - i.e. the feeling in the WAY the words are sung not just the correct key and timing-feel the rhythm of the songs words. The 'OOOMMPH!'
Also learn to control your voice so you don't bounce from a whisper to a loud projection, keep it even. Learn when to pull the microphone away from your lips by at least 4 to 6 inches depending on how strong you are as you belt out that
power. if you must project very hard and loudly

Some KJ and karaoke companies do NOT print all the versions of songs they carry in their books for a variety of reasons. If you are looking for a specific disc brand you may need to ASK the KJ to look in his/her master song book to see what
is available. A good KJ should be able to refer you to the best version of their library since duplication of song titles is unavoidable. Since there may be many versions of songs like a LIVE, RADIO, COUNTRY, POP or other such arrangements I do list all versions. I try to know my library and I will play a sample a few seconds of two different discs if I am unsure which has the best tempo, key, sound.
HINT: In my libraries the lettering before the disc & song numbers stands for the manufacturer...(A FEW examples of lettering I use)

Instructions on how to copy and paste the hyperlinks:
Place the mouse/cursor arrow at one end of the URL for the site Web
Syntax starts with http:// most use www. too some don't. Hold the
